Thomas Gerald Covert, Jr., affectionately known as Tom, passed away on April 18, 2025, in Knoxville, Tennessee, succumbing to the relentless grip & challenges posed by Metastatic Lung Cancer, which spread throughout his brain, liver, and skin. He was born on July 4, 1957, in the City of Bradford, McKean County, Pennsylvania. Thomas embodied a spirit as vibrant as the fireworks that celebrated his birth each year. Tom decided to leave this world for a better one, as a God-fearing man, we know he is getting a tan and enjoying the endless beach days and all the fishing he can endure up in Heaven.
A man of notable intellect and Kindness, Tom was a certified electrician. Tom spent his life illuminating the world around him with his expertise, yet it was his kindness and vast knowledge that truly lit up the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He offered a helping hand with a gentle heart and an insightful mind—traits that endeared him to family and friends alike. Tom had attention to detail and problem-solving abilities like no other. You could always find him tinkering in the garage and working on the next project.
In his personal life, Tom cherished the moments spent with his family. Tom had an insatiable love for the great outdoors, cherishing moments spent fishing and basking in the sunlight at the beach - he always wanted to get a good tan. These simple pleasures, enveloped in laughter and companionship, are memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of his loved ones.
A proud father and doting grandfather, Tom leaves behind his cherished daughter, Katherine Papa, whose bond with him was filled with laughter and shared adventures. Together, they created countless memories, many of which were marked by tranquil days spent fishing and joyous moments at the beach. His Son in law, Michael Papa & precious Granddaughter, Ember, who will undoubtedly miss his infectious laughter, warm hugs and the wisdom he dispensed. They will carry his spirit forward, sharing stories of their time together and honoring his legacy with every wave of the ocean and cast of a fishing line.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Gerald Covert Sr.; his mother, Anna Louise Harmon (Covert); his brother, John Covert; and his sister, Sharen Covert. The loss of Tom leaves a profound void in the hearts of his surviving family and friends, who will always remember him as a kind, knowledgeable, and loving individual.
As we reflect on the beautiful life of Tom, let us not grieve too seriously—after all, he wouldn’t want that. Though we are reminded of his gentle spirit and the warmth he brought to our lives, Let’s celebrate a life that was full of love, kindness, & knowledge. His kindness and knowledge were not merely traits but part of the essence of who he was—a man whose legacy will continue to shine bright in the memories of all who knew and loved him. He was a loving figure whose memory will continue to illuminate our lives in the years to come. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of those who went before him.
