James "Size" Arthur Stephens, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Born on August 28, 1963, in Maryville, Tennessee, James lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and a strong sense of community.
A proud graduate of Alcoa High School in 1981, James was an exceptionally talented athlete, demonstrating remarkable skills as a baseball and softball player. He even had the opportunity to pursue a professional baseball career shortly after high school. However, it was his career as a tractor trailer truck driver that defined his working life. For many years, he traveled the roads, embodying the qualities of a hard worker who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
James was a man of many interests. He cherished playing ball, enjoyed fishing, golfing, and found joy in spending time at the beach, with golf holding a special place in his heart as his favorite sport. His vibrant personality and zest for life allowed him to connect deeply with everyone he met. Honest and positive, James served as a confidant and friend to many, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
James is survived by his wife Karen Stephens, to whom he was a loving caregiver to during her illness, showcasing his unwavering commitment to family. James is also survived by three children, Adam and Haley Stephens, Megan Stephens, and Brittany and Matt Singleton. Five beloved grandchildren: Paisley, Levi, Kincely, Blair, and Mattie. His sister, Angie and George Daugherty, and his brother, Keith and Katie Stephens and his mother, Connie Giles. James took pride in being an uncle to many nieces and nephews, and he held dear an extensive family network including numerous aunts, uncles, and caring cousins. James was preceded in death by his father Frank Edward Stephens.
James Arthur Stephens was not only a dedicated employee but a man of faith who steadfastly believed in God. He found comfort in the assurance of an eternal reunion with his loved ones in heaven. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and love will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and the community that he so generously touched throughout his life.
